Some unrelated thoughts

Why is it that the guy who uses Facebook status updates to advertise his latest get rich MLM scheme is the same guy who also uses status updates to see if any of his 'friends' have work around their homes he can do for extra cash?

By the same token, have you ever noticed that those get rich quick advertisements on the side of the road are written with a sharpie on a piece of cardboard? If this person is really getting rich in only three hours a week 1. Why is he advertising it, and 2. Couldn't he afford some better supplies?

You may be familiar with the fact that gmail 'reads' your mail and then targets you for relevant advertisements based on the content of your mail. I'm a little concerned because apparently gmail thinks that I am either an alcoholic or a felon. Possibly both. I constantly get advertisements like "Felon jobs - $15-$65/Hr jobs for felons." Or "Got a DUI in Utah?" I also got one for a fire science degree. Apparently you can get online fire science training. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it sounds awesome.

And finally, how is it that you can combine two households into one and end up with 56 blankets and only 2 sharp knives?

The Office Wedding

So tonight Jim and Pam get married. How do you Office fans feel about this? A lot of people seem to think that show will lose its draw once the whole Jim/Pam thing is a done deal. Kind of like what happened in Lois and Clarke when they finally got married and Terri Hatcher found out that Dean Cain was really Superman. (Does anyone else remember this? Because if not I'm going to feel kind of stupid.)

I don't know, I think if people were going to lose interest, they would have done so when Jim and Pam started dating. Don't you think? To be honest, I think a lot of people weren't really into the Jim and Pam drama to start with, so they will be glad it's over.

That is my deep thought for the day.

Sometimes it's the little things...

Some little things that have made my day:

1. I found $3 in a coat I haven't worn since spring. I love finding money!

2. Lorin scraped my windows on my car for me. I absolutely hate scraping windows. Especially since it's only October! Some day our garage will be cleaned out enough from moving that I can park in there, and then it will be a non-issue.

3. On Facebook I saw this guy I went to high school with on the 'People You May Know' page. I had such a huge crush on him my senior year. We were friends, but he was a little out of my league at the time. So today I looked at his profile, and I would totally be out of his league now if, you know, we weren't both married and all of that. But that's besides the point!

Are 'couple' accounts on Facebook really socially acceptable?

A few nights ago my husband called to me from the living room, "Look, I got a friend request from a couple!"

The 'couple' Facebook account is a phenomenon that I've never really understood. I'm Facebook friends with Josh. I'm also Facebook friends with Jenni. Do I really need to be Facebook friends with JoshandJenni as well? The whole situation really confuses me. When 'JoshandJenni' posts a status update: "Time for a night out with the girls!," do I post my comment as, "Have fun Jenni!" or do I need to comment, "Josh, I really don't think that's acceptable for a married man!"

On a more serious note, is there really no room for individuality in marriage? Does everything, including Facebook, have to be shared? I think that's why the couple account bothers me so much. Maybe I'm reading too much into this?

Comfort Zones

I'm not Catholic, and I wasn't ever really that familiar with Lent until I moved to Michigan. A lot of people I worked with discussed what they were sacrificing for the 40 day of Lent. I always thought it was interesting. I think one year I even said I was going to do something for Lent. Similar to a New Year's Resolution, I didn't follow through.

Even though it began on Wednesday, I'd like to have goal for Lent. I know that technically you're supposed to sacrifice something, rather than just have any old goal, but since I'm not looking at this from a religious perspective, I think I'll be okay. I like the idea of the 40 day timeframe, as it makes goals a bit less intimidating.

In order to have some accountability, and also in order to have something to write about in my blog. I am going to post my goal here, and give updates every couple of days on how I'm doing. Don't worry, my goal won't be boring. I won't be promising to eat healthy every day and then post lists of everything I ate during the week.

My initial goal was to stop letting my own insecurities affect my behavior, meaning my interactions with other people, or things I'm not willing to try. That seemed kind of broad and overwhelming, so I'm narrowing it down a bit. For every day of Lent (that I haven't already missed) I will try something new that tests my comfort zone.

So now I need some ideas? What are some things I can try? Keep in mind that most of these need to be simple if I am to pick one on a daily basis. I'm not going to be able to backpack through Europe by myself or anything crazy like that. I was thinking something along the lines of going to a movie by myself, starting a conversation with someone I don't know, etc. Any good ideas? What are some good things I could try?

I have to say I'm completely appalled by the turn the voting has taken. Only one vote for No - they're all a bunch of crazies!? And let's be honest, that vote was mine. I feel like you guys have some kind of death wish for me.
But you'll be happy to know that I have date #2 with a guy I met on-line Saturday. So far he seems pretty normal. (As a side note, if you're reading this and feeling offended that I didn't tell you about date #2, just know it's because I didn't want to tell you that I caved. You know who you are).
Anyway, wish me luck. Hopefully things will go well enough that by this time next week we'll have moved on to the Facebook friends stage. At which point I will have to immediately delete this entry. That happened once before with the '10 things you should never say to a girl' post. I started talking to the guy again, who had numerous entries on the 10 things never to say post, so I deleted it. Two weeks later we're on the fritz again and I'm missing my dang funny post. Maybe I should re-write that one?
